Sorbet can be super simple. The basic recipe is water + sugar + flavor. Recently my sister gifted me this Cuisinart ICE-21P1 1.5-Quart Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker, and we can’t get enough of it. The kids love to help make these simple recipes and I enjoy having refreshing sorbet in the freezer for these hot Miami days.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 Cups: White Sugar
- 1 ½ Cups: Water
- 2 Cups: Lemon Juice (about 8 medium size lemons)
- pinch of salt
Step 1:
Combine the sugar and water in a pot and simmer until the sugar has dissolved. Set aside to cool.
Step 2:
Juice about 8 lemons for 2 cups of Lemon Juice. Strain to make sure you have removed most of the pulp if you prefer a smoother sorbet.
Step 3:
When the sugar mixture has cooled, add the lemon juice then cover and chill in the refrigerator for four to six hours. When I can plan ahead, I let the mixture chill overnight.
Step 4:
Pour liquid into the ice cream maker and follow the ice cream maker instructions. This is the ice cream maker that I use. Cuisinart ICE-21P1 1.5-Quart Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker
Step 5:
Depending on the room temperature, my ice cream maker takes about 40 minutes to freeze the sorbet. Move the sorbet into a freezer container like this one: Tovolo Glide-A-Scoop Ice Cream Tub. You will need to purchase two as the container only fit 1.5 quarts and the recipe makes a little over 2 quarts of sorbet.
